💧 Irrigation Infrastructure Upgrades Begin in Kole Fields of Thrissur

Thrissur, Kerala – May 29, 2025

The Kerala Government has launched key irrigation improvement works in the Thrissur-Ponnani Kole wetlands, aimed at ensuring water availability during both cultivation and dry seasons. This includes:

Construction and repair of bunds and canals

New drainage systems to prevent waterlogging

Upgraded water management structures

These efforts are part of the ₹425 crore Kole Wetland Development Package. Local farmers are optimistic that these upgrades will enhance productivity, reduce crop loss, and support sustainable agriculture in one of Kerala’s most vital paddy-growing regions.
